The short version
BillHartzer.net is a static informational website. It publishes the professional record of Bill Hartzer and nothing else. It does not set cookies, does not run analytics software, does not carry advertising or advertising technology, does not embed tracking pixels or social widgets, and does not ask you for any information about yourself. There is no account to create, no newsletter to join, no comment system, and no form on this site that submits data anywhere.
Most privacy policies describe an elaborate set of collection practices and then reassure you about them. This one describes the absence of those practices, because that is what is true here, and a policy that boilerplates in provisions about advertising partners and analytics vendors that a site does not use is worse than useless. It teaches readers that the document is decorative.
The rest of this page sets out the detail: what happens if you email, what a web host records at the network level regardless of what a site chooses to do, how third-party links are handled, and how to raise a question about any of it.
What this website does not do
Specifically, and stated as commitments rather than as current configuration:
- No cookies. The site does not set cookies of any kind, including strictly necessary, preference, analytics or advertising cookies. There is no cookie banner because there is nothing to consent to.
- No analytics. No analytics platform is installed. There is no Google Analytics property, no server-side analytics package, no heatmap or session recording tool, and no A/B testing framework.
- No advertising technology. No ad network, retargeting tag, conversion pixel or audience list. Your visit is not added to any advertising segment.
- No embedded third-party trackers. No social media widgets, no embedded video players that phone home on page load, and no externally hosted fonts or scripts that would disclose your request to another company as a side effect of loading a page.
- No fingerprinting. The site runs no script whose purpose is to identify or distinguish a device or browser.
- No forms that submit anywhere. There is no form handler, no database, and no third-party form service. The contact link composes a message in your own email application; nothing you type is sent to this website.
- No sale or sharing of personal information. There is nothing collected here to sell or share, and none would be sold or shared if there were.
If you send email
The contact link on this site opens a new message in your own email client with an address filled in. When you choose to send that message, it travels from your email provider to mine in the ordinary way. This website plays no part in it and never sees its contents.
What I receive when you email me is whatever you chose to put in the message, plus the information any email carries: your sending address, the subject line, the time, and the routing headers your provider adds. I keep correspondence in my mailbox for as long as it is useful for the purpose you sent it for, and longer where a professional or legal obligation requires it. I do not add correspondents to a mailing list, and I do not pass your message to a third party except where I am required to do so by law or by a court.
Please do not send confidential material, privileged material, or case documents by email before an engagement is in place and any conflicts check is complete. That is a request in your interest more than mine, and it is the reason first contact for professional work belongs on the business sites rather than here.
Web hosting and server logs
Any request made to any web server anywhere is handled by that server, and hosting providers commonly maintain access logs for security, abuse prevention and operational troubleshooting. Such a log typically records an IP address, a timestamp, the file requested, the response code, and the user agent string your browser sends. This is a property of how the web works at the network layer, not a choice made by this site's design.
I do not use any such logs to build a profile of a visitor, to identify a reader, to measure traffic for marketing purposes, or to enrich or combine with data from any other source. There is no analytics pipeline into which they feed. Where a hosting provider or content delivery network holds logs of that kind, it processes them under its own retention and security policies as the operator of that infrastructure.
If you want to reduce what any website's infrastructure can record about you, the effective tools are the ones under your control rather than in a policy document: a VPN, a browser that limits fingerprinting surface, and settings that restrict what your user agent volunteers. That advice is unglamorous, but it is more protective than any promise a site can make about logs it does not directly control.
Links to other websites
This site links to other websites, including my own business properties and third-party sources cited in the professional record such as publisher archives, conference organizers and trade publications. Once you follow a link, you are on somebody else's site under somebody else's terms.
Those sites have their own privacy practices, and many of them do use cookies, analytics and advertising technology. I have no control over any of that and take no responsibility for it. The presence of a link here is a citation of a source or a route to a service; it is not an endorsement of another operator's data handling. If a linked site matters to you, read its policy on arrival rather than assuming it resembles this one.
Children
This site is a professional biographical record intended for an adult audience: prospective clients, attorneys, conference organizers, journalists and colleagues. It is not directed to children, offers nothing of interest to them, and does not knowingly collect information from anyone of any age, because it does not collect information at all.
Your rights under privacy law
Privacy regimes such as the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation and the California Consumer Privacy Act give individuals rights over personal information held about them: to know what is held, to obtain a copy, to correct it, to have it deleted, and in some cases to object to its processing or to opt out of its sale.
Those rights apply here in an unusual way, because this website holds no personal information about its visitors. There is no profile to disclose, no record to correct, and no dataset to delete. The only personal information I hold in connection with this site is email correspondence that a person chose to send me. If you have emailed me and you want to know what I still hold, or you want it deleted, write to me and say so, and I will tell you or do it, subject to any professional or legal obligation that requires me to retain a particular record.
There is no do-not-sell request to submit, because nothing is collected and nothing is sold. There is no tracking preference to configure, because there is no tracking.
Changes to this policy
If the site's technical behavior ever changes in a way that affects this description, this page changes with it, before or at the same time as the change goes live rather than afterward. A privacy policy that lags the deployment it describes is inaccurate for the entire window in which it matters most.
This policy applies to BillHartzer.net only. Hartzer Consulting, DNAccess and BillHartzer.com are separate sites with their own policies, and those sites may use analytics, forms and other technology that this one does not.
